Why Should You Hire a Personal Trainer
ASSESSMENT
When you first sit down with a trainer he/she will assess you in many different ways. They will go through your current lifestyle with a fine comb finding out what you work at, how many hours per week you work, your stress levels while in work, your stress levels outside of work, how many hours sleep per night you get, What type of meals you eat throughout the day, what times you eat these meals at, what type of food you snack on, what time these snacks happen at, What type of schedule your weekends run on, how do they differ food wise from your average week day, where you are at on a fitness level, strength level, flexibility, etc. Then they will move onto your body analysis where they will take girth measures in specific areas, take a body-fat test, weigh you and from here they will know so much about what lays ahead for you.
RE-ASSES
These should be on a weekly basis if not longest period every fortnight just for a quick chat/weigh in/bodyfat assessment/ or girth measures.
But it doesn’t stop there a one off full assessment is a starter but this persons life may change every now and again so a monthly Q&A over a coffee will be worth its weight in gold while trying to get you the best results possible.
GOALS
Next is a Goal plan: As no plan is worth doing unless you have something to work towards, something that every week you can stop, assess and make sure that the Goal in question is closer than it was the week before.
Nothing is worse than waiting for something to happen, without measuring it, to see if you are getting closer even if it’s a 1-2lb weight loss per week that’s 1-2lb less than the week before and 1 step closer to the master plan- The Big Goal.
I personally like having One Big Goal and then assessing weekly, fortnightly or what deems reasonable to Asses, depending on the goal in question.
PREPARATION
The trainer should then go through how to prepare for the coming changes that will need to happen in your life to execute the goals at hand, that you will have told the trainer that you want to achieve in your assessment.
How to prepare all your meals, how to prepare for the dreaded night out where you will have to stay off the drink!!
How to go to implementing the right choices when your out or sometimes when you get caught at a meeting and your meal is in your office.
TRAINING
After your initial consultation you will now have a PLAN, this plan will be executed every training session by exceeding yourself the week before whether it be beating your current time in conditioning rounds or beating A Personal Best in a certain lift. These are the factors that will push you onto wanting that overall goal even more why?? You can see change happening before your own eyes.
RESULTS
Your trainer should be able to guarantee you the results you break your balls for training………or should they??? (3 1 hour training sessions never got anyone in shape without the other 60+hours per week being prepared with shopping and meal prep outside of your 3 training sessions)
Now this one is on the client to stick to the plan and push through the hard times and not sit through assessments saying yes yes yes to all the questions when in fact you had a few slip ups, If your honest you can work through these and continue on the mission at hand with your trainer after all that’s why you hired the trainer in the first place for the knowledge and guidance.
So if for the life of you that you cannot give up chocolate its up to your trainer to help wean you off this in stages instead of saying from Monday you wont eat chocolate for 6 weeks…automatic fail you simply wont last pissing time!!!
FOCUS
Believe me its hard to update your Facebook, Twitter, Instagram account mid-way through a workout with a trainer standing over you. He will either tell you at the start no phones or phones off or simply flip out if he catches you doing this!!!!
He will be there keeping you in touch with the job at hand its pure focus for that one hour training session leave your issues at the door, Your trainer will keep you focused with your workouts by cutting out all distractions for that one hour and getting your mind-set right to smash EVERY rep for that particular session.
MOTIVATION
You might not like your trainer at that start if he/she is pushing you to failure or to the point that you feel like giving up or puking mid session!!! But guess what that’s why you hired this trainer, to push you, to design your plans, to take out all the guess work and the wasted hours on Google searching for that magic pill, shake or wrap!!
More importantly your training will be structured. Body parts on certain days and fully balanced programs, targeting weak areas, muscle imbalances, increase range of movement, flexibility, core strength and improve posture while ensuring that it’s still going to get you to that Big overall Goal.
NUTRITION
You will now have an understanding of what to eat and more importantly why you’re eating in this new way.
Change is tough and you will adapt one meal at a time until the penny drops! You now have changed your whole eating habits and the instead of the deli wrap it’s a green salad with salmon drizzled in olive oil a few nuts and some Cajun sauce for a dip or a sprinkle. (Its not all boiled chicken and steamed broccoli)
The nutrition end of the program will be the single most important aspect to get the results. Think about it you’ll only be training 3+hours per week if showing up and training for an hour was all it took we would all be walking around with dream bodies. But don’t be afraid a few small changes to your eating habits make a huge difference towards that dream body.
